In line with its commitment to student health and wellness, the Campus Clinic conducted an informative health education session for students of the Understanding the Self (GEC 109) course under the College of Teacher Education on August 20, 2025. The activity, led by the campus nurse, focused on raising awareness about teenage pregnancy, premarital sex, and sexually transmitted diseases and infections (STDs/STIs).
The session was attended by Understanding the Self (GEC 109) students, who actively participated in the discussion held in a classroom setting. Using visual presentations, the campus nurse explained the physical, emotional, and social implications of early sexual engagement. Emphasis was placed on the importance of making informed decisions, understanding personal responsibility, and practicing self-discipline.
One of the key topics discussed was teenage pregnancy, where students were educated on its potential impact on education, health, and future opportunities. The nurse highlighted the importance of goal setting and prioritizing academic and personal development.
The discussion also covered premarital sex, addressing common misconceptions and encouraging students to reflect on their values and responsibilities as future educators. The campus nurse emphasized respect for oneself and others, as well as the importance of making choices that align with long-term goals.
Furthermore, the session provided comprehensive information on STDs and STIs, including their causes, modes of transmission, symptoms, prevention, and available treatments. The nurse stressed the importance of awareness, early detection, and seeking proper medical consultation when necessary.
Students were encouraged to ask questions, resulting in an interactive and engaging learning environment. The activity not only enhanced their knowledge but also empowered them to become responsible individuals and future educators who can advocate for health education in their respective communities.
This initiative reflects the Campus Clinic’s ongoing efforts to promote holistic well-being among students and to support the university’s mission of developing informed, healthy, and responsible citizens.
