Cagayan State University – Sanchez Mira Campus participated in a consultative session with adopted communities, civil society organizations, local government units, and other stakeholders, along with the eight other CSU campuses and the Central Administration, on October 13, 2025, at the CSU Conference Hall and via Zoom.
In his message, OIC President Engr. Arthur Ibanez highlighted the university’s pursuit of inclusion in the United Nations Localization Network and recognized Dr. Giged Battung, University Dean of the College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy, for facilitating CSU’s participation. This milestone opened opportunities for the university to collaborate with the United Nations Local 2030 Initiative on Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He further noted that the consultation serves as an opportunity for community members and partners to share their insights in defining local climate action and social development.
“Here, your insights, experiences, and ideals will help define what climate action and social development truly mean for our community,” Engr. Ibanez added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Battung emphasized that CSU’s engagement with the UN Localization Network opens greater opportunities for collaboration and support from the United Nations while expanding the university’s community services. She also underscored that sustainability is a shared responsibility among the government, civil society, and the academic community.
“There must be harmony between the planet, people, and profit — the three pillars of sustainability,” Dr. Battung said, emphasizing the moral duty to protect the environment for future generations.
The consultation also featured parallel sessions conducted in each of the nine campuses with their respective adopted communities and partner sectors, which included the presentation of local innovation and initiatives.
CSU – Sanchez Mira introduced the COCOpreneur Program, presented by Dr. Ronald Cachero, which empowers coconut farmers through entrepreneurship, value-adding processes, and digital marketing integration.
Meanwhile, Engr. Marvin D. Adorio presented the project titled “Magnetic Water Treatment (MWT) in Hydroponics and Aquaponics,” which introduces innovative methods to enhance plant growth, improve nutrient absorption, and increase crop yield for vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes, as well as tilapia.
After the presentations, open forums and workshops were conducted to allow stakeholders to raise questions, share recommendations, and propose additional projects.
