With Cagayan State University's (CSU) 6th overall placement out of 26 participating schools in the National Math-Science Quiz Bowl at the University of Northern Philippines at Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on April 2-4, John Dave Manaday of the College of Engineering (COE) was hailed as the 10th place in Physics Category.
Manaday, a 3rd year BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering student, was one of the university's representatives at the national level after placing 2nd in the same category during the university-wide eliminations at CSU-Andrews on March 7, and competed with his teammate Alecs Dayag, a 2nd year BS Electronics and Communication Engineering student at CSU-Carig, and were coached by Engr. Angelica D. Coballes.
In an interview, he expressed his pride in representing not just CSU-SM but the whole university in the national level.
"I'm so proud of myself—who would've thought that a Falcon would represent CSU at this level? I'm truly grateful to our coach, Engr. Angelica Coballes from CSU Carig. Of course, I'm also thankful to my CSU-SM family; to our Dean, Engr. Marvin D. Adorio; to my mentor and campus-wide coach, Engr. John Paul D. Galvan; Prof. Mhell Ruth Ann C. Simon; and my entire COE family. It's an honor to raise our COE flag once again," he said.
Further, he shared some of their strategies during their preparation for the competition.
"During our review, we decided to divide the topics we would focus on. Since my partner is an ECE student, he focused on electricity, electromagnetism, and mechanics. On the other hand, I took on thermodynamics, waves, and optics, which also align with my course," Manaday shared.
Aside from the placement in the Physics Category, CSU also placed 5th in Mathematics, 7th in Biology, and 7th in Chemistry.
