The Department of Trade and Industry–Regional Office 02 (DTI R02) and Cagayan State University (CSU) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to advance the coconut industry in the region through a comprehensive mapping and profiling initiative.
The agreement, signed today, June 31, 2025, outlines a joint effort under the 2025 Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).
CSU-Sanchez Mira Campus will lead the implementation of the project, which aims to produce a research report titled “Cagayan Valley Coconut Industry: Profile and Strategies for Development.”
The study, led by CEO Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado, with team members Engr. Shirly Agcaoili, Campus Research Coordinator, and Mrs. Ellaine Cheer C. Pacris will profile coconut farmers, processors, and other industry stakeholders across the region to develop data-driven strategies for sustainable industry growth.
DTI R02, represented by Regional Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag, CESO V, will provide technical guidance, project supervision, and access to the National Coconut Farmers Registry System. The agency will also fund the initiative with a total budget of ₱1,952,088, disbursed in four tranches.
Meanwhile, CSU, headed by OIC President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez, ASEAN Engr., will oversee project implementation, which includes data collection, analysis, final report preparation with recommendations, and a feedback session with DTI focal persons.
The project will run from June to November 2025, encompassing consultation sessions, fieldwork, data analysis, and validation. All outputs, such as the database and final report, will be turned over to DTI R02.
This partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the coconut industry in Region 2 by equipping stakeholders, including farmers, MSMEs, and processors, with relevant, research-based insights.
