Focusing topics on national security, road safety, and gender-based laws, the Campus Student Council (CSC) in partnership with the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) invited lecturers from Allacapan Municipal Police Station for the conduct of the Crime Prevention Seminar.
PMAJ Krismar Angelo Casilana, the chief of police, started the lectures by talking about several groups that affect the country’s security and explained where these groups came from, what they believe in, and the problems they create in the safety of Filipinos. He also presented some of the wanted individuals who were being tracked down by the authorities, along with drug identification and its behavioral ill effects.
The second lecturer, PMSG Michael John Arquero, focused on road safety and emphasized the importance of following traffic rules/signs, staying alert while on the road, and practicing safe driving habits. He also highlighted that wearing a helmet is crucial for protecting oneself in case of accidents, especially for motorcycle riders.
Moreover, gender-based laws like R.A. 9262 also known as Violation Against Woman and their Children (VAWC) was discussed by PCMS Donna Pilotin. She explained key pieces of legislation aimed at protecting individuals from gender-based violence and discrimination. Her lecture ended up by telling everyone that wearing military uniforms as a form of fashion can be subjected to 10 years of imprisonment.
With the theme ‘Building Safer Opportunities: Strategies for Prevention and Empowerment’, CCJE and 50 students from each of the other colleges who do not have classes attended the seminar. Also with them were CCJE Dean Jose Sheriff Panelo and CSC Adviser Jayson Ilarde.
