CSU-SM LAUNCHES SUSTAINABLE AGRI-ENTERPRISE MODEL

Rooted in a vision for sustainability and future resilience, Cagayan State University – Sanchez Mira (CSU-SM), under the leadership of Campus Executive Officer Prof. Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado and University President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez, officially launched the Orchard Launching and Establishment of a Coconut-Pomelo-Sheep-Cow Integrated Production System: A Model for Sustainable Agri-Enterprise. The event took place at CSU-SM Old Site, Nagbaranganan, on March 26, 2026.

The ceremonial launch marked a significant step in the university's long-term commitment to agricultural innovation, environmental stewardship, and sustainable agri-enterprise development. As part of the event, eighty (80) seedlings were planted out of the more than 1,500 seedlings that are ready for planting, which were distributed across the designated planting area. This initiative aims to promote resilient and sustainable agricultural practices, benefitting both the environment and the community.

The activity was attended by several key figures, including Board of Regents Members Hon. Urdujah G. Alvarado and Hon. Dionisio C. Ledres Jr., Sanchez Mira Municipal Mayor Hon. Abraham B. Bagasin, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Engr. Audy R. Quebral, CEO Terence A. Tejada of CSU Andrews, CEO Engr. James Cabildo of CSU Lal-lo, University TVET Coordinator Charmie S. Calvo, and Regional Executive Director of DA-RO2 Hon. Rose Mary Q. Aquino, represented by Dr. Bryan S. Sibayan.

Other attendees included Regional Executive Director of DENR-RO2 Atty. Ismael T. Manaligod, represented by the CENR Officer of Sanchez Mira, Ms. Aida Adap, and Dr. Genaro Ronald C. Ibay, Asst. Regional Director, TESDA-RO2/Provincial Coordinator, TESDA Cagayan, along with campus officials, faculty, staff, students, partner stakeholders, and invited guests.

The Orchard project, an initiative championed by the university president, responds to the government's call for improved resiliency, food security, and sustainability. This model for sustainable agri-enterprise will help the university lead by example in addressing the challenges of modern agriculture while ensuring environmental responsibility.
