To promote public safety and awareness on crime prevention, the College of Criminal Justice Education in partnership with the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) Office 2 and the College Student Council, held a Crime Prevention Seminar on September 22, 2023 at the People’s Gymnasium, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan. Part of the “Salaknib: Tulong Ko, Pag-asa Ko” extension program, the event invited participants from the PPA's client base.
The seminar featured a series of lectures in which Dr. Jose Sherief O. Panelo, Dean of the College, led the program with a talk on essential Crime Prevention Tips, followed by Mrs. Ria Joy M. Agno with an insightful session on Gender-Related Violence, and succeeded by a comprehensive lecture by Mr. Melvin S. Atayan, who covered Gender-Related Policies, including critical laws such as the Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262), the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), and the Sexual Harassment Law.
The initiative serves to foster awareness and prevention strategies, advancing the role of educational institutions in promoting public safety. It also promotes equitable opportunities for learning and empowerment within the broader community which bridge gaps in access to vital information and legal protections. CCJE is indeed dedicated to public service and community empowerment.
