The collaborative efforts between ASIST and CSU-SM commenced in August 2022 when the Research Director and research staff of ASIST visited CSU-SM for a benchmarking activity, specifically focused on the mushroom technology implemented by the Campus. During this engagement, CSU-SM shared some of its innovative technologies, sparking fruitful research discussions. This initial interaction paved the way for the exchange of valuable insights, ultimately laying the groundwork for a collaborative research engagement between both parties. By January 2023, the collaborative spirit between CSU-SM and ASIST solidified through the formalization of a memorandum of agreement (MOA). This MOA outlined joint research and development collaboration on projects related to oyster mushroom cultivation and apiculture.

Building upon the success of the initial MOA, the Campus received an invitation to participate in a research meeting with ASIST. The purpose of this meeting was to deliberate on expanding and refining the existing MOA. During these discussions, both agencies explored the potential for future collaboration, particularly in the realm of heirloom rice research.
